The Trace in LBL The Trace, also known as KY 453, is a 45 mile highway that runs right through the middle of Land Between the Lakes (LBL).  This scenic highway begins at Grand Rivers, KY at the northern entrance of LBL, and ends at Dover, TN, the southern entrance of LBL.  The Trace leads you through this unbelievably gorgeous National Recreation Area and provides easy access to many attractions along the way, not to mention the abundant wildlife including deer, buffalo, elk, eagles and more.  At the northern entrance, you really should make a short loop on the Kentucky Lake Drive (described below).  There are numerous roads and trails off The Trace that lead to the two lakes, Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, and to various sites and campgrounds.  If you have time, don't miss the Golden Pond Visitor Center, the Planetarium and the Homeplace 1850.  You could spend quite a bit of time any any one of these attractions.  If making a day of your scenic drive, stop at the many beautiful picnic areas along the way for lunch then take in the Buffalo Range and Great Western Iron Furnace Ruins.  To see just where The Trace leads, you can view a LBL Map online or download the PDF Version that may take a few minutes to load but it shows all the detail of LBL. Kentucky Lake Drive in LBL If you want to view Kentucky Lake, this is the drive to take!  The Kentucky Lake Drive is located near the northern entrance to Land Between the Lakes and is only a short 3 mile drive accessible via The Trace.  There are several breathtaking overlooks on Kentucky Lake, picnic areas, hiking and biking trails.  You will not want to miss this one.  It is also an excellent location for the famous Kentucky Lake sunsets!  You can see where Kentucky Lake Drive is located by viewing the LBL Map online or by downloading the PDF Version.  The PDF Version may take a few minutes to load but it shows all the detail of LBL.
