Fall is a great time of the year for the outdoorsman. October colors bring about some of the greatest bow hunting for deer in the country. An estimated 300,000 (more like half of a million) deer gives the archer an excellent opportunity to take a trophy buck. Western Kentucky holds a good portion of these animals. T.V.A.'s Land Between the Lakes, for years known as "The Bow Capitol of the world", is a prime example.

More than one hundred and seventy thousand acres, extended from just south of Kentucky Dam to Dover, Tennessee, is dotted with old homeplaces and an abundance of red and white oak trees. It's natural landscape is a perfect home for the magnificent white tailed deer. The surrounding counties with their large tracks of farmland growing corn and soybeans produce at least one or two Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young deer each year. Conservative limits and short gun seasons (one week in November) allow these animals to have a much longer mortality rate.

If it is waterfowl you're interested in, Western Kentucky is the place to come. November begins the annual migration of ducks and geese through Kentucky. Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake are ideally suited for great waterfowl hunting. An abundance of resident and migrating birds on these lakes makes for an incredible day of wing shooting.

Traveling west some fifty miles brings you to Ballard County Refuge, known for years as "The Goose Capitol of the World". The refuge is surrounded by some of the top outfitters in the country. Guides such as Carroll Hunting Club offers professional callers that will make a day in the goose pits a day to remember.

Last, but not least, on the list of great hunting is the often elusive wild turkey. Fall provides you with the most challenging hunting of all, taking a turkey with a bow. You can take either sex during this time. Shotgunning for gobblers begins in April. All reports show the turkey flocks continue to grow at an astronomical rate.
