Crappie fishing for the month of March
has been a tough one. I am also sorry to say that part of the reason
it has been tough is water levels. On 4/06/08 at 7:00a.m. the lake
level is 365.3 and rising. Threading the needle or doodling
is possibly the best method to catch'em. Casting banks has had poor
results, I think because there is so much cover available to the
crappie they are just very scattered. We have caught some good
crappie 14 to 17 foot deep, but, I just do not think that is where
the majority of the fish are.
Bass fishing however has been
excellent. There has been a lot of good fishing in and around
the bushes. Pitchin and flippen is an excellent and fun way to
fish, that catches some good fish. There is nothing like setting
the hook on a 5 pounder in a bush and hauling her out of there
10 foot away on 30 pound test line.
Rattletraps in the creek channels
was working very well on Kentucky but that pattern has faded out
at least in my boat. I have however heard some excellent results
on Barkley, rattletrapping creekmouths.
Good luck and be
careful on the water, there is a lot of drift, Dan Dolack, Capt
