GOLDEN POND, KY - Looking for adventure this summer? Make plans to come outside and play at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area. Our 2011 summer activities give visitors the opportunity to explore and learn while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the great outdoors.

Start celebrating the summer season with Memorial Day Weekend, May 28-29, at The Homeplace (HP) with the Pickin' Party Old Time Music Festival. Live music, open-mic, great food, and a festival atmosphere will bring the hollow to life with live music. Saturday, June 11, will be Children's Day at the HP; in addition to games and activities throughout the farm, storyteller Cherri Coleman will be sharing her whimsical Mother Goose stories. The HP will also offer the traditional Independence Day Celebration on July 4, complete with a visit from Kentucky statesman Henry Clay, portrayed by George McGee and funded by the Kentucky Humanities Council and the National Endowment for Humanities.
The Woodlands Nature Station (NS) will kick off summer with River Days, May 28-30. River Days gives families the opportunity to learn about animals that make lakes and rivers their homes, participate in fun activities, and even take excursions out on the water. The NS will be offering staff interpreter led canoe trips along the LBL shoreline throughout the summer. Cool and Crawly Critters Day, Saturday, July 16, will give kids the chance to get an up close look at bugs, snakes, turtles, and more. The ever popular Hummingbird Festival, August 6-7, will feature ruby throated hummingbird programs, banding demonstrations, and hummingbird related activities for young and old alike. Friday night features the popular pre-registered Dinner with the Hummingbirds .
Stop by the GP Planetarium anytime to cool off after spending a fun filled day in the sun. Laser Light Music Shows, featuring a variety of musical hits, will begin May 28. The Summer Nights planetarium and astronomy program will begin June 18. Both of these events will run throughout the summer season.
