THE ROCK QUARRY

This area is probably one of the most popular destinations for regular boaters on Kentucky Lake. You will find the weekends at the Rock Quarry filled with many boats tied to each other. Not only is this the most popular meeting place and a great escape from sudden storms, but also the most popular cliff diving site. The stone here was quarried to build the dam, creating a hole approximately 118 feet deep. Although the diving here is a regular occurance, everyone should realize the dangers. Injuries and death can occur from diving too close to the edge and hitting underwater rocks, and from the actual impact with the water not to mention the slippery climb to the top of the quarry. Kentucky Lake Online does not condone nor recommend this activity, although we have jumped ourselves.

Years of colorful graphiti have covered the rock walls and almost all of the graphiti is of decent content. It is quite interesting to cruise past these pictures, viewing the array of art. You will see some works of true artists, great renditions of famous cartoon characters, and of course, the usual terms of endearment such as "Dick Loves Jane".

The picture above is of the Webmaster's daughter jumping from some of the lower rocks. This too is very dangerous. Pay attention to the lake levels and swim the area very well to be sure of underwater structures. This area of rocks is not very high, but injury can still occur. It is also been noted that jumping with life jackets can be harmful, due to the impact with the water and how it can jerk your neck. Again, Kentucky Lake Online does not recommend this activity.
